Resort Overview
The sustainability and wellness ethos of Six Senses now comes to its second location in the Maldives with the reinvention of a former Maldivian icon welcoming friends, old and new. The island of Kanuhura has been reborn and relaunched, reimagining the existing resort and resources while continuing to protect the natural beauty of the island. What stays has been enhanced, from the Drift and Bottega dining outlets to the growing of vegetables in the organic garden, where a microgreens nursery mingles with the beauty of rare and colourful orchids. Food ingredients are sustainably sourced and drinking water is produced then bottled on the island whilst actively contributing to the island and the Lhaviyani atoll's marine conservation.
The island is home to one of the largest and finest, most natural, palm fringed white sandy beaches in the Maldives and the resort encompasses another two white-sand private islands, one for intimate desert island dining and the other for the ultimate castaway escape.
The laid-back tropical island feel has inspired the elegant architecture with 91 beachfront and overwater villas including 12 new Beach Retreats and The Reserve. These offer one to three bedrooms and private pools just steps from the ocean, on point for both families and couples seeking quality time together. Whether staying on the shore or perched on stilts over the tranquil lagoon, all accommodations offer a sophisticated yet charming style to combine elegance with feet-up comfort. Inspired by turquoise lagoon waters and lush tropical nature, the interior colour palette includes marine hues and down-to-earth tones that fully blend with the natural environment. The design is purposely bold, polished over rustic, and resolutely eco-friendly: everything is crafted from local and sustainable materials. The villas and retreats feature large windows allowing natural light to enter throughout the day and draw the eye to the island’s lagoon and the Indian Ocean. The outdoor rain showers give a sense of bathing in nature under the expansive starlit sky.
An abundance of flavours and aromas with cuisines from East to West are represented and follow the ‘Eat With Six Senses’ concept, whereby all dishes are made with fresh, sustainably sourced ingredients from the island’s organic garden, local fishermen and farmers or the wider region. Set on the iconic beach, The Point offers Spanish-influenced cuisine paired with a Mediterranean wine concept, while Bottega captivates with its deeply-rooted traditional Italian recipes. The Market creates colourful evenings with its ever-changing dinner options, including influences from Southeast Asia, Japan, and India. Sip & Sand offers poolside culinary adventures with cooked-to-order meat cuts and the catch of the day on charcoal fire. Castaway lunch at Drift is an experience that shouldn’t be missed. Tucked away in the lush tropical nature of Jehunuhura, Drift features dishes with freshly caught local reef fish that sizzle slowly on the grill, marinated with fresh herbs from the organic garden and local spices. For those moments in between, Scoops provides complimentary homemade ice cream and sorbet, including plant-based options along with a daily bake of cakes and cookies and quench your thirst with wholesome juices made from fresh fruit and vegetables. The Sunset Point promises stunning sunset and ocean views, with chilled-out moments on the overwater hammocks. Work your way through the incredible drinks list whilst listening to our resident DJ pair the perfect track to your perfect tipple.
The island’s uninterrupted sounds of nature are immersive and mesmerizing. At Six Senses Spa, the oceanic drums and Koshi chimes help reset your energy levels and create a relaxing sound-healing journey. The biohacking lounge helps to overcome jetlag and relax the body and reduce recovery time between dives and workouts. The mixture of hot and cold-water pools are the ideal pre-treatment mind and body soother before your experienced therapists provides locally inspired treatments with local Maldivian ingredients nourishing your skin and soul.
With an array of activities, on land, on the waves, and underwater, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Younger guests from 3 to 11 years old can discover their creativity or more of the island and marine life at the Grow With Six Senses kids club, which offers fun and educational activities, such as treasure hunts, kids’ yoga, crafts, and upcycling. A 5-minute boat ride with the watersports team delivers you to the house reef in the lagoon or opt for a turtle safari or adventure snorkel, on the reefs of neighbouring islands. Kanuhura has 42 different dive sites within a one- hour sail and this particular atoll is known for its large species of marine life such as manta rays, spinner dolphins, green turtles, yellow fin tuna, large puffer fish and the occasional whale shark. Couples can enjoy romantic and intimate moments gazing at Lhaviyani’s famous sunsets from the new multi-deck Point restaurant and bar, or an “I do” moment during a private dinner in a special location. Crafted family experiences create a sense of reconnection and can be tailored for families small or large.
