Thailand, ostentatiously known as The Kingdom of Thailand, is a country of incredible beauty. Being the only country in Southeast Asia to have never been colonised by a European power, Thailand retains its pockets of authenticity, untainted by enforced adaptations in culture, and yet is modern and thriving making it a major holiday destination.
Thailand has many nicknames representing its multifaceted existence; it is many things to many people. Anciently known as ‘Siam’ until 1939, the country has a rich wealth of history to be discovered. The Thai use the phrase ‘Land of the Free’ to express pride in the fact that it has never been colonised. Our favourite nickname for Thailand, though, is ‘The Land of 1000 Smiles’, given due to its reputation as being home to the world’s most friendly inhabitants, who always welcome tourists and love to make new friends. We’re betting this is a huge contributing factor to why it is the most visited Southeast Asia holiday destination.
The largely tropical country is renowned for its fragrant cuisine using pleasingly pungent spices, aromatic lemongrass, lovely limes, red hot chillies, creamy coconut, the freshest meats and seafood. It is worth spending a few Baht to find your new favourite cuisine, which you undoubtedly will, before heading off for a nights entertainment. Nightlife offerings extend further than the predictable (yet infinitely entertaining and fun-loving) Lady Boys of Bangkok; see some traditional dancers using symbolic hand gestures and wearing golden headdresses.
Holiday Resorts Thailand
Our Luxury 5 Star Resorts in Thailand can situate you on mainland, such as Rachamankha Resort in Chiang Mai’s Old City, or on one of the stunning surrounding islands including Six Senses on the Island of Yao Noi or Four Seasons Koh Samui. The majestic mountains welcome exploration of the terrains, whilst beautiful beaches play host to Full Moon Beach Parties, or nirvanic relaxation when staying in Soneva Kiri.
The landmarks are equally visually gratifying; visit the most sacred Buddhist Temple Wat Phra Kaew, the Grand Palace, or other unique tourist attractions in Bangkok whilst staying at the Mandarin Oriental.
Phuket is another popular place in Thailand; visit the illustrious Trisara Resort, with its tangible Thai flavour or the Ritz Carlton Phulay Bay nearby in Krabi. Or, head north and stay in the renowned Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai. Take your pick.
