Visitor numbers to the Maldives increased during February, with the official figures suggesting that the exotic island archipelago is proving even more popular than ever.
According to the latest monthly economic review from the Maldives Monetary Authority, tourist arrivals during the month increased by five per cent on the previous month and a further six per cent compared to the same period 12 months ago. The overall occupancy rate also saw a pleasant rise, increasing by three per cent compared to February 2012.
It is thought that the increase has come about due to a rise in the number of arrivals from Asia and Europe, suggesting that more and more people are longing to discover the incredible experience that a luxury getaway in the Maldives can offer.
With tourism being a fundamental source of income for the islands, many will be hoping that more people will continue to visit throughout the year, particularly with the summer holidays coming up.
