The Maldives narrowly missed out on claiming the Best Leisure Destination of 2012 at the Grand Annual Tourism Awards on 1 April 2013, which took place earlier in the month.
The Philippines won the highly sought-after honour, beating Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Maldives.
Officials within the Maldives' tourism industry aren't panicking however, with the disappointment of missing out offset by some extremely positive recent arrival figures.
