Set in the stunning Ceylon Tea Country, Ceylon Tea Trails is Sri Lanka’s first Relais and Chateaux resort, and incredibly, the world's first tea bungalow resort. Focusing heavily on the national institution of tea-drinking, guests are promised a highly unique experience, replete with charming traditions and incandescent natural beauty. Built between 1888 and 1950, the historic edifice retains its heritage in its decorative details, with antique furnishings and colonial features.
There are five luxurious bungalows at the hotel, each named after a tea planter. Guests are welcomed and enveloped in comfort, discreet hospitality and luxury with the help of in-house staff; each bungalow has its own manager, butler and houseboys. The gardens surrounding the bungalows echo the English love of gardens; nature havens, they boast plentiful fauna, including kingfishers, oriental magpie robins, doves and parakeets.
Honouring age-old tea planter traditions, dining at Ceylon Tea Trails is delightfully traditional and familiar. Dinners can be enjoyed over a warm roaring fire, followed by a prestige single malt whiskey or a fine wine. Specialties are imaginative, incorporating tea wherever possible, such as in the keemun tea and fresh tarragon infused roasted chicken.
Tea-drinking traditions are inherent in every aspect of a stay at the hotel. Days begin with Bed Tea, served by your butler as a gentle wake up call, and afternoon tea in the hotel’s stunning gardens is a treat for the eyes and the taste buds
