Destination overview

Volcanic hills bloom with sugar cane and coconut palms, bright-white beaches curl around quiet bays and mangrove trees rise from the glittering lagoon. When the Dutch first set eyes upon Mauritius in 1598, they believed they’d discovered Eden. Who could blame them?

Some 1500 miles off the East coast of Africa, this gorgeous island lies surrounded by a magnificent coral reef spanning the entirety of its coastline. This volcanic island forms part of the Mascarene Archipelago; all that now remains of the ancient landmass that once united the great continents of Asia and Africa. The natural surroundings take your breath away at every turn: from the dancing shadows of the casuarina trees on the powder-soft beaches to the iridescent beauty of The Seven Coloured Earths.

Past the mangroves and sheltered bays lie an azure paradise. Turtles, dolphins, butterfly and angelfish explore coral caves and sunken shipwrecks. Mauritius’ crystal clear waters make for fantastic diving and snorkelling conditions all year round. Above the surface, a perfect mix of sheltered reef, shallow waters and lively southeastern trade winds conjure world-class conditions for Kitesurfing. Fishing, sailing, windsurfing and waterskiing are also fantastic.

A delightfully mild climate prevails all year round, hovering between 20-25 degrees Celcius. Mauritius enjoys warm summers from November to April with warm rainy weather most likely in February and March. A rainbow of tropical sea life flocks to Mauritian waters in the summer, making this time popular with nature lovers nonetheless. The Winter season, from June to September, enjoys slightly cooler and drier climate and is an enchanting time to visit.

Mauritius’ gorgeous luxury offerings make the most of the sensational surroundings. Spas stand on stilts over mangrove lagoons and championship golf courses blanket verdant private islands. Rooms, suites blend colonial-era elegance with indulgent modern comforts. Sensational villas offer ylang-ylang thatched roofs, jungle showers and sumptuous natural elements.
