On arrival to Banjaar Tola by Kanha National Park tiger reserve, down the winding sandy roads by the sprawling reeds, munching monkeys and local people, you will eventually turn towards the East or West Camp where you will be greeted with a Namaste, a cool damp towel and a refreshing concoction of cool water with lime, salt and mint.
The accommodation at Banjaar Tola captures the essence of luxury camping in the Indian jungle. Each tented suite has a sturdy floor, air conditioning system and a uniform that fits the khaki colours reflecting the safari theme. With stunning views facing the River Banjaar, which is separating the lodge from Kanha National Park, you can keep an eye on any emerging wildlife from your bed, or you can venture onto your exposed decking and feel closer than ever to nature. This is a truly memorable place to stay on an Indian tiger safari trip.
Although there isn't a communal dining table in the restaurant, like in Mahua Kothi Safari in Bandhagarh, a social approach to dining still prevails. Guests are encouraged to sit together and chat with a few drinks in hand, before heading onto a special previously prepared meal at your own table. Although the dishes are made for everyone, if you have special dietary requirements or preferences, the very hospitable kitchen team will put a lot of effort in to make sure you can dine on something you truly love.
With tribal artefacts adorning the space, decorative works of art and references to the simple camping style of the past, Banjaar Tola is a luxurious camp that still retains its heart. There is an indoor lounge area, complete with books, a sociable outdoor communal sitting area, and a tepee-style dining room in which the best home-inspired Indian cuisine is served. A glance in the other direction reveals a luscious outdoor pool, an oasis within the heat of the Indian jungle.
